Peach Flat
Peach Flat is nestled in the foothills of the Snowy Range, 10 km north of Briagolong. It is the site of the 4 ha Peach Flat and Community Wetland project. Surrounded by low hills and dry
schlerophyl forest (the bush), this wetland is significantly different to those found on flood plains and deltas.

The aims of the project are:
- to preserve, enhance, monitor and study the wetland, as well as
- provide an opportunity for people to understand the value of natural habitats.
Stage 1 (design and earthworks) was completed in 2004.The funding and support for this stage came from a number of sources, including Landcare, Watermark, Wellington Shire, West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority and the land-holders, Rod McMillan & Michèle Adler.
Stage 2 has seen the construction of a pub
lic car park and
shelter, which doubles as a picnic and observation site.
Visitors can be seen regularly taking
advantage of this facility and enjoying a walk along the public trail that
borders the property.
Another smaller 2-vehicle car-park has been constructed further along the road. This provides easy access to a walkway and board-walk which leads to the (yet to be constructed) centrally located bird hide. The funding for these constructions has been through the generosity of the Bruce & Jane Dyson Foundation.
The Peach Flat & Community Wetlands is an exciting
work-in-progress.
